To reduce the amount of sweat that collects in your shoes, you should always wear socks, preferably made of cotton or other absorbent materials that absorb a lot of the sweat so the bacteria can't feed on it.
To eliminate foot odor, practice good foot hygiene to keep bacteria levels at a minimum. Avoid wearing nylon socks or plastic shoes. Instead, wear shoes made of leather, canvas, mesh or other materials that let your feet breathe.
Fungus grows in your shoes, gloves and boots because it's moist and dark. The fungus will continue to grow, smell and live in your shoes or boots until the moisture is removed. Chinook boot dryers eliminate the moisture and thereby killing the fungus. You're left with warm, clean, odor-free, moisture-free, warm boots, gloves and shoes.
We sweat all over -- our hands have a comparable number of sweat glands, for example -- and most of the rest of our body doesn't particularly stink, except for our armpits. The difference is socks and shoes cover up our feet. The sweat our feet produce can't easily escape into the air like the sweat on our hands. Therefore, the sweat collects in our socks and shoes. The bacteria love this dark, damp feast and have a sort of feeding frenzy. When you take off your shoes, the smell that hits you is all the bacteria excretions that's collected on your feet and in your socks and shoes.
Bacteria grow in warm moist environments and causes infections. More than 60,000 diabetics per year lose their toes to infections, and it's estimated that 75% of these amputations could be avoided with proper foot care.
